Afrikan Heritage Walkathon Inc. is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to raise funds to support community improvement and
development efforts, through the organization and implementation of annual walkathons and other fund raising activities. In the year 2003,
the First Annual Afrikan Heritage Walkathon took place, leaving from The Great Blacks in Wax Museum, which represents our
past, to Coppin State University,
which represents our future. This symbolic walk brought awareness of self-determination to our community. The funds raised
were used to support Afrikan-centered educational institutions in Baltimore
and internationally.
The
purpose of this fifth annual walk is to benefit those organizations and groups in the Baltimore
metropolitan area Black/African community that work to enhance the Unified Empowerment and prosperity of our community.
Over the last few years the
Afrikan Heritage Walkathon has awarded the various institutions listed below with grants to assist in their overall objective
of Afrikan-Centered Empowerment. They are as follows:

Our goal
was assist in to raising funds to support, the Afrikan Wax Statues Project for three great historical figures among our people:
1.
The late Dr. Martin, co-founder of the Great Blacks in Wax Museum
2.
Dr. Joanne Martin, co-founder of the Great Blacks in Wax Museum and
3.
The late Dr. John T. Chissell, M.D., originator of the Pyramids of Power.

award scholarships and student service learning hours to middle and high school inner city youth, as well as presenting each
participant with either a Certificate of Merit or Appreciation and a Certificate of Participation.
The walk this year will take
place on Saturday, May 26th 2007 beginning at 7:30am from the Great Blacks in Wax Museum and ending at Coppin State
College.
The
Award Ceremony for donations collected in the 2006 walkathon will take place on Saturday, May 4th 2007 at the Great Blacks-in-Wax Museum Mansion on the corner of North Ave.&
Broadway
